~~Kristins P.O.V.~~ "Um, I think I'm going to go for a quick walk. Clear my head before I wstart my schoolwork, you know?"I said, and left before he could say anything. I was scared, terrified really. I knew what Robert could do when he was just angry, I had experienced it first hand. I really didn't want to find out what he was like when he wanted to make sure I didn't tell anyone. I didn't want to know what he was like when he was afraid, but I knew I was about to find out. I reached the lake after around 5 minutes, so I sat down by the lake. the sandy area around the lake was still damp from the earlier rain shower. The lake looked so calm and serene that I dipped my fingers into it. Suddenly I felt hands in my hair, pulling my hair, and me, up. I winced when I looked around and saw no one else but Robert. Not even an innocent passerby, even an old granny would have been appreciated. "Did you tell anyone?" He asked, giving an extra yank for emphasis. "No, no I didn't." I told him, masking my fear pretty well. "good.." H replied, and pushed me down hard. I cut my hand on a rock, but didn't say anything. "If you do, I will kill you. And that Jonas family." I felt like crying, how did he know I lived with the Jonas's? I had never allowed him inside, because I knew he would see at least one member of my "family". But, now, he knew my secret. Now they were definitely in danger. "How... how did you find out?" I whispered, almost too afraid to ask. "Honey, I put two and two together and got four. I followed you home from school and saw you talking to the curly haired one." he told me. "Get up." I did as I was told wordlessly. I faced him and looked in his eyes. They were full of fear and power. I knew he had control of me, and I felt so weak. Here was Robert, not my boyfriend, but still had control of me. Still causing me to live in fear. But I had to protect my "family". "Did you tell him anything?" he asked again. "No." I replied honestly. He slapped me across my face, hard, and said "Lets keep it that way.".. I stood there for a few minute, too hurt to move. When I realized Nick might start to get worried, I left. I got into the house and slipped upstairs before anyone saw me. I nthe bathroom I quickly washed up my cut hand and put on a bandage. The I slipped across the hallway to my room and quickly locked the door. About give minute later I received a text from Nick. "Where r u?!?!?!" "my room" "When did u get home???" I didn't bother replying, he would be in my room soon enough. Trouble was, I didn't want him in my room. He would see my arm an face, I didn't want him to start asking questions. I knew that if he asked, after a while, I would break down and tell him everything. And there was another secret, besides Robert being a drug dealer, that I wasn't ready to tell him quite yet. {AN: yes, i am going to make you wait. the other secret will come on much later in the story.}. I heard him come up the stairs and try to open my door. "uh, Kris, your doors locked." "I know, I'm doing my homework." I told him. "Oh, I guess i'll come back when dinners ready, ok? "k, thanks." I replied, then added "i love you" "I love you too Kristin" he told me, and I couldn't ignore the happiness in his voice. I worked on my homework hard after that. Then I realized I couldn't eat dinner with them, they would see my face. Around 7 p.m., Mom came upstairs. "Kris, sweetheart, dinner's ready." "I'm not that hungry Mom." I told her, lying of course. "Are you sure? Are you ok?" she asked. "Yea, fine." I replied. "Well, if you get hungry later, your food will be on the kitchen counter." I heard her go downstairs and tell the others. I really was hungry, but I just had a few skittles from my bad and continued working. I managed to get all my work done, I was quite proud of myself. Around 8, I heard them all leave the table, so I unlocked my door and laid down on my bed. I made sure to put my hurt cheek on the pillow, so if anyone checked on me they would see a normal cheek. I heard Nick walk upstairs. I knew Nicks walk well, how many times had I heard him come upstairs after being out with Miley? Just as the door opened, my body relaxed and I start fake deep-breathing. "Hey Kris-oh" Nick said, and walked over to me. I heard the floorboards creek under him. He kissed my forehead gently and walked to the door. Just before leaving, he whispered." i love you"
